COSMIC Licensing
Licence fees have been introduced for the commercial use of COSMIC. This ensures the continued growth and maintenance of the resource for academics and industry alike.
We only apply fees to the commercial sector and COSMIC data remains completely free for non-commercial use.

* We want to encourage and support scientific entrepreneurship wherever possible, thus the use of COSMIC data by startups is discounted, upon qualifying conditions.
Non-commercial
COSMIC core data (including the Cell Lines Project, COSMIC-3D, and Mutational Signatures) continues to be provided free of charge for Non-Commercial use.
Non-Commercial use means any use for internal research or education by the Non-Commercial Organisation, and excludes:
(i) use by a company or organisation whose primary purpose is to make money, otherwise known as a “for-profit” company or organisation; or
(ii) use by a company or organisation whose primary purpose is to serve a charitable, educational, scientific or literary purpose, otherwise known as a “not for-profit” company or organisation, and where such use relates to the provision of results or data relating to an individual’s health, wellbeing or any medical condition, and where the individual or their agent or guardian, has directly or indirectly (other than through taxation) paid money for the generation of or access to, such results or data.

For any other type of use by academic or non-profit organizations for activities other than Non-Commercial Use will require an appropriate licence.
Commercial
Licence fees are required for commercial use in order to ensure the continued growth, development and maintenance of the resource.
